The Clemente Course
The Bard College Clemente Course in the Humanities is a nationally acclaimed, free, college-level course in the humanities, held two nights a week over a period of five months. The next class begins in January, 2012.
The Course grew out of the disturbing fact that in our society many low-income residents have limited access to college education and no opportunity to study the humanities. The premise of the program is the belief that anyone, if given the opportunity and support, can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to enrich and transform his or her life.
The Clemente Course provides a college-level classroom taught by top-level college instructors, free of charge to qualified students. Together with other students, in a supportive non-judgmental environment, participants have the opportunity to explore masterpieces in the fields of literature, history, philosophy and art. All books and tuition are covered for qualified students. Childcare and transportation is available as needed.
