Subject: ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE 431.01
STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS
The Vice-President for Student Services or designee shall be the Disciplinary Officer and shall have authority to administer the disciplinary action prescribed in this chapter.
The following disciplinary actions are hereby established and shall be imposed upon violators of the rules of conduct enumerated in this chapter, pursuant to the right of appeal as outlined in Procedure 431.03:
1. Warning
This shall consist of a formal written warning provided to the student and shall detail the rules violated as well as the more serious disciplinary action which may result from repeated violations of rules of conduct. A formal written warning is not subject to appeal.
2. Probation
This shall consist of formal action by the disciplinary officer, placing specific conditions on the student's continued student status. Notice of probation shall specify the period of probation and any conditions. Probation may be for a specific period, or may extend for an indefinite period to graduation or other termination of the student's enrollment at the College.
3. Suspension
This shall consist of a formal, but limited, dismissal from the College and status as a student. Notice of the action shall specify both the length of the dismissal and any conditions which must be met before reinstatement. Suspension may also include withdrawal and/or limitations in one or more courses, programs, or services without revocation of student status.
4. Deferred Suspension
This shall consist of notice of suspension from the College with the provision that the student may remain enrolled contingent on meeting any specified condition(s). Not meeting the condition(s) shall immediately invoke the suspension for the period of time and under the conditions originally imposed.
5. Expulsion
This shall result in permanent termination of a student's eligibility for enrollment and may also deny access to any or all parts of the campus or other facilities permanently.
6. Loss of Privileges
This shall consist of denial of specified privileges for a designated period of time.
7. Restitution
This shall consist of compensation for loss, damage, or injury. This may take the form of appropriate service and/or monetary or material replacement.
8. Discretionary Sanctions
A student may be offered an opportunity to perform work assignments, essays, service to the College, or other related discretionary assignments including but not limited to the completion of an alcohol education workshop, diversity awareness workshop, or anger management class in lieu of other sanctions.
9. Revocation of Admission and/or Degree
Admission to or a degree awarded from the College may be revoked for fraud, misrepresentation, or other violation of standards in obtaining the degree, or for other serious violations committed by a student prior to graduation.
10. Withholding a Degree
The College may withhold awarding a degree otherwise earned until the completion of the process set forth in this Student Conduct Code, including the completion of all sanctions imposed, if any.
