Integrated Studies

Integrated Studies (IS) includes three types of interdisciplinary offerings. A variety of IS courses are offered throughout the year. IS listings for a particular quarter are described in the college's Quarterly Bulletin.

Learning Communities
Two or more existing courses from different fields offered as a coordinated package which are team taught. Faculty explore connections among subjects, while maintaining values intrinsic to each course. Students registering for a learning community will receive credit for individual courses as described in the catalog. Recent learning communities coordinated Biology 101/English 101; Political Science 101/English 102; Business 101/English 101; and Economics 210/English 102.

Linked Courses
Two or more existing courses from different fields that are taught separately but share coordinated syllabi, materials, and assignments. Recent linked courses include English 101/Music History 115 and English 102/American History 147. A course may also be linked with a program (e.g., English 102 and Criminal Justice). Students registering for a linked course receive credit for individual courses as described in the catalog.

Crosscurrents Courses
A single course that examines relationships among several different disciplines from one or several curricular areas. Single instructor or team taught, with frequent guest presentations. The following courses are offered regularly:
