Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant Program provides training for students who are interested in working in medical offices and in other health-care settings. The Medical Office Assistant certificate is designed to provide students with technical knowledge of health care procedures and how to perform general medical office duties. The training includes courses in medical terminology, phlebotomy, general accounting, computer training, medical coding, billing, and computerized charting. Students may also take additional medical transcription courses while completing the Medical Office Assistant certificate
Students must apply to the program. Enrollment is limited to twenty students each year. Accepted students may enter the program either fall or winter quarter. Applications may be obtained from the Enrollment Services Office.
Career Opportunities
The Medical Assistant Program provides training to individuals who want to work in medical offices, clinics, hospitals, home health services, extended-care facilities, and other health-care settings. Advanced degrees may provide access to a wider range of health-career opportunities. The demand for health care assistants should remain strong over several years.
