1. How do I contact LMC staff?
Telephone numbers and email addresses for all LMC staff are listed on the Staff web page.

Students automatically have an account with the LMC. Nonstudents may come to the LMC in person and fill out an application. (Photo ID is required.)

3. What is my user ID?
If you are a student, your user ID is the Student Identification number your were issued when you registered. If you are an employee, it is your Employee Identification number. If you are a community member, it is the number you were issued when you opened your Library account. (Note: Be careful to not confuse your LMC User ID with the PIN you use to register and access your unofficial transcript and other confidential student information

4. How can I find out what I have checked out?
Your patron information is available online. Click Patron Information in the online catalog. Type your user ID and last name in the fields provided. Use this feature to verify that your record is cleared at the LMC before attempting to register for classes.

5. I have an overdue item that I need to return before I can register, but the Library is closed. What should I do?
Put the item in the book return slot to the left of the front door of the Library. Items are processed even during quarter breaks. Keep in mind that staffing is at a minimum level when we're closed, so allow a few extra days for your account to be cleared. If you need to contact us about your account during a quarter break, call the college switchboard. (452-9277).

6. How do I deal with an LMC debt?
You have three options: (1) return the materials (this is the preferred option), (2) pay the replacement cost, or  (3) provide a replacement copy. The replacement cost is listed in your patron information screen in the Online Catalog. The bill must be paid in the Business Office. A detailed description of the LMC Debt Policy is available on our web site.

7. What kinds of online activity are considered acceptable in the LMC?
The guidelines for acceptable use are posted on the LMC web site.

8. What about online chat, games, and email?
The LMC is not an appropriate place for personal online chat or games. Our limited resources are in frequent demand by students needing to do course-related research. Please be aware that the LMC staff reserves the right to ask you to give up your workstation if other students are waiting. Please review the Internet Use Policy online.

9. Can I do word processing in the LMC?
Yes. Word processing software is also available to students in on-site computer labs (Rm. M131 on the Port Angeles campus and at the extended learning sites in Forks and Port Townsend).

10. I'm enrolled in a Distance Learning course. How do I request LMC materials online?
Use the Interlibrary Loan forms posted on the web site. Identify yourself as an off-campus student and the materials you request will be mailed to your home.

11. How do I place an InterLibrary Loan (ILL) request online?
Complete instructions for using the ILL services are posted on the LMC web site.

15. Can I access the LMC's online resources from home?
Yes, if you are enrolled in classes this year.

16. Can I access the CD-ROM resources from home?
No. Our licensing agreements do not allow home access.

17. I'm a student, but I can't access certain Online Resources. What's wrong?
Try re-entering your user ID number (your Student Identification Number). If you still cannot gain access to an online resource, contact Technical Support.

18. I'm not a student, can I access Online Resources such as ProQuest?
No, our licensing agreements limit access to currently enrolled students and employees of Peninsula College.

CyberLinks are a collection of useful web resources, organized by subject area, compiled by our reference staff.

20. How do I place a hold on an item?
Select and display the item you wish to place on hold. Click the "Request Item" button, enter your ID number and last name, then click OK. Select "hold" and click okay. If the item is currently on loan to another patron, your hold request will be processed. You will be notified by phone when the item becomes available.

21. Can I place a hold on an item that is on the shelf?
No, you'll have to go to the shelves and get it. If you are unable to locate it, ask an LMC staff member for assistance.

22. Why don't the email links embedded in web pages work at the LMC workstations?
The email client is not enabled on the LMC workstations. Since you're on campus, take the opportunity to talk with us in person.

23. Why can't I print this web page?
There are a variety of factors that contribute to the way a web site prints or doesn't print. If you find that you can't print a web page, notify Technical Support. If the problem is limited to a specific web site, there's not much that can be done about it. Bottom line: some web pages just won't print.

24. How do I maximize the screen?
Click the "maximize" maximize button in the upper right-hand corner.

25. Can I use the LMC workstations to make online purchases?
Yes, it is possible to do this, but the Library/Media Center STRONGLY ADVISES AGAINST IT. The privacy of your personal information, including your credit card number, could be compromised. We have seen at least one website that stores the information you provide on the local workstation using a cookie. In this instance, the next person to use the workstation would be able to impersonate you and use your credit card number to place an order. Cookies are periodically purged from the LMC workstations to help mitigate this type of issue, but there is a period of time during which cookies are retained.
