Acceptable Use
The LMC's microcomputer
resources support the academic research and instructional activities of
Peninsula College. The LMC expects responsible and respectful use of all
electronic resources.
ACCEPTABLE USE
Peninsula College and the LMC reserve the right to monitor electronic resources
to protect the integrity of computing systems, to track problems, to ensure
equal access, and to promote acceptable use of college resources. Acceptable
use includes those activities and applications that are consistent with
the educational mission of Peninsula College and fulfill the requirements
of academic research or instruction.
UNACCEPTABLE USE
Use
of electronic resources that is inconsistent with the educational mission
of Peninsula College; violates institutional policies or procedures; violates
local, state or federal laws, including copyright law; or violates public
or personal rights is unacceptable. Unacceptable use includes, but is
not limited to, the following:
- Use of computer accounts, access codes or passwords assigned to others;
- Any attempt to access, modify, or delete files; modify system facilities; or
subvert restrictions on the use of LMC equipment, software, or data;
- Any physical modification to LMC equipment, including the addition of
personal computer equipment or the removal of college equipment;
- Any activity or application that impedes the computing activities of others;
- Any violation of computer system security;
- Any violation of software license agreements;
- Any violation of network usage policies and procedures;
- Any violation of another user's privacy; or
- Violation of this policy, including any use that is inconsistent with the educational mission of Peninsula College, such as commercial
activities, private business, or personal profit.
INTERNET USE VIOLATION
Persons who violate acceptable-use policy or procedures will lose the right to use electronic resources in the LMC for the remainder of the quarter.
An LMC staff person will ascertain the user's name, complete a violations form, mail or hand deliver a copy to the user, and file the form with the Vice President of Instructional Resources and TeleLearning.
Refusal to provide personal identification will result in immediate suspension of LMC=user privileges and may require a call to campus security for further action.
Illegal acts involving LMC computing resources may also be subject to prosecution by local, state, or federal authorities.
