NEW BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAMS IN PORT ANGELES

Western Washington University's award winning Huxley College of Environmental Studies prepares students to:

Western Washington University’s Woodring College of Education Extension Program is offering an Elementary Teacher Preparation Program in Port Angeles. Successful completion results in a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree with an academic major in Child Development and the Residency Teaching Certification – Elementary (K-8). Graduates also complete substantial coursework in the fields of special education and English as a second language, all of which can apply to certificate endorsements in these areas. Coursework can be completed in 11 quarters.

City University began a Masters in Teaching certification program in elementary education in January 2002. Based in Port Hadlock, this elementary education degree program is currently the only graduate teaching program on the Olympic Peninsula. The 64-credit program features Saturday classes, including summer sessions, for working students and can be completed in two years.

In partnership with Peninsula College, City University is offering a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree beginning in Summer 2002. Successful completion of the B.A. in Education program leads to a Washington State Teaching Certificate (Residency) with either an Elementary Education (K-8) Primary Endorsement or a Special Education (K-12) Primary Endorsement. Typically, students complete their first two years at a community college, then complete their study at City University. Coursework is combined with classroom experiences in this 18-month program.
