Getting Around Town

Public Transportation

Many students at the college use public transportation. A taxi is usually very expensive and is used only when some one is in a hurry or has a short distance to go. The majority of students use the bus. The Clallam County Transit System is the bus system that operates in Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, and Forks. It is inexpensive and convenient because you can usually arrive where you want to go and have to walk just a few blocks. Monthly and quarterly bus passes are available to students who wish to purchase a bus pass instead of paying fares each time they take a bus. If you take the bus frequently, it can be cheaper to buy a pass. Bus schedules are available in the Business Office at the college and in the buses.

Owning an Automobile

You must have a valid driver's license to drive a car. Each state in the United States issues its own driver's license. To obtain a driver's license in Washington State you will be required to demonstrate your knowledge of the traffic laws by taking a written test and you will also be required to take a driving test. You can do this at the Driver's Licensing Department in Port Angeles. Washington State requires that anyone who drives an automobile must have liability insurance. You will need to purchase insurance and can seek advice from the International Student Office. Never drive a vehicle unless you understand all of the applicable road rules, recognize all of the road signs, and possess a valid license to drive.
