Jamestown S’Klallam tribal artist Jeff Monson will be honored at a reception at the Peninsula College Longhouse House of Learning starting at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 8. The public is cordially invited to meet the artist, view his work and listen to him discuss his art.

The reception celebrates Monson’s solo exhibition in the Longhouse Gallery, which will be on display through the month of October. The program will officially open with a short introduction by college president Dr. Thomas Keegan.

Monson began his career as an artist about 15 years ago. Although he works in a variety of media, he is most drawn to wood and wood carving. Many of the pieces on exhibit reflect his passion for carving. Monson looks on his art as a tradition he is carrying on. “When people look at my work, I’d like them to think that this is what people were doing 500, 600, even 700 years ago,” he says.

The Longhouse Art Gallery is open from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.
