Presidential Search at Peninsula College

 

 

 

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees has announced the selection of four finalists for the position of president of the college.  The finalists are:

Dr. Dorothy J. Duran

Dr. Cheri A. Jimeno

Dr. John R. (Ron) Langrell III

Dr. Luke P. Robins

The finalists will be invited to visit Peninsula College during the week of March 5th, participate in public forums, and have interviews with the Peninsula College Board of Trustees.

Dr. Dorothy J. Duran

Dr. Dorothy J. Duran has been the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, since 2006. In this capacity, she supervises five academic divisions, one branch campus and four educational centers.  During her five years at Iowa Western, she has established an Academy for Teaching Excellence and developed a renewable energy initiative, which includes a new Wind Energy Technician program, Sustainable Construction Building, Hybrid Automotive, and Biotechnology programs.

Prior to her work in Iowa, Dr. Duran served as Dean/Director of the El Rito Campus of Northern New Mexico College and also worked at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, and Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute.

Dr. Duran has a Doctor of Philosophy, Education Administration with a specialty in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin; a Masters of Arts, Educational Foundations with a Specialty in Administration and a Bachelor of Arts, English and Sociology, both from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque; and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.


 

Dr. Cheri A. Jimeno

Dr. Cheri Jimeno has served as President of New Mexico State University  Alamogordo in Alamogordo, New Mexico (one of four comprehensive community colleges within the New Mexico State University System) since 2007. Under her leadership, the college has enjoyed significant enrollment growth and has been listed in Community College Week as the second fastest growing community college (for the size) in the nation. She has also been responsible for implementing an Office of Student Retention and Success, receiving more than $12 million in federal grants and more than $2.5 million in capital outlay from the state legislature.

Dr. Jimeno also served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Montana State University Northern in Havre, Montana, and as Dean of the School of Education, Business and Technology at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, Montana, where she was also an Associate Professor of Business and Department Chair.

She received her Ph.D. in Education and Business Information Systems from Utah State University in Logan, Utah; an M.S. in Business Education from Montana State University, Bozeman; and a B.A. in  Business Administration, from the University of Montana, Missoula.


 

Dr. John R. (Ron) Langrell III

Dr. John (Ron) Langrell III has been the Executive Vice President for Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota, since 2005. Under his leadership, the College secured legislative and community support for the 53rd system campus; founded and implemented five community leadership programs throughout Southeast Minnesota; created the Professional Intercollegiate Education Center at Owatonna Hospital, and developed and implemented full accreditation of selected online degrees. While serving as Executive Vice President, he has also served as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Owatonna College and University Center (OCUC) from 2005 to 2008 and as the Chief Student Affairs Officer from 2005 to 2010.

Prior to his work in Minnesota, Dr. Langrell held academic leadership positions at Walla Walla Community College, where he served as Vice President of Instruction-Chief Workforce Officer and as Instructional Director of Vocational-Technical & Continuing Education. He was also the Director of Student Services Personnel-Chief Student Affairs Officer for the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Dr. Langrell has a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University College of Education in Tallahassee, Florida.  His Sp.Ed. (Vocational Teacher Education), M.Ed. (Guidance and Counseling) and B.S. (Psychology) are all from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. 


 

Dr. Luke P. Robins

Since 2006, Dr. Luke P. Robins has served as the Chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC), the newest and one of the fastest growing institutions in the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. In 2010, the college completed construction of a new $45 million main campus and consolidated operations with two former technical college campuses. Effective April 1, 2011, Dr. Robins also assumed leadership responsibilities as Interim Regional Director of Northeast Louisiana Technical College in addition to his role as Chancellor at LDCC. In his dual roles as Chancellor and Regional director, he provides leadership for two colleges with eight instructional sites.

Dr. Robins has also held academic leadership positions at National Park Community College in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he was an Executive Vice President/Chief Academic Officer and at Eastern Idaho Technical College in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he was Dean of Instruction.

He received his Ph.D. in Educational Administration: Community College Leadership Program from The University of Texas at Austin; his M.S. in English, Community College Teaching Track, from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois; and his B.A. in Christian Education from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
