The good thing about learning how to draw trees is that, unlike a portrait, where the features have to be in the right place for the face to look right, if you put a branch in the wrong place on a tree, it still looks like a tree. This lesson shows you how to draw familiar shapes and lines you've seen a hundred times. Add a couple of simple techniques, and you'll be drawing believable, realistic trees in no time.

are America's castles--proud, sturdy, mystical, and romantic. Using easy-to-follow step-by-step demonstrations and different prints, we will study how to create drawing full of atmosphere and feeling. The margin between land and sea has fascinated and inspired artists over the years and it still retains its unique magic. We will capture all the spectacular beauty and mystery of the coastal fringe: rugged shapes carves out by the sea, sheer cliffs, low-lying stretches of sand, ranges of hills running out to meet water and more. We will learn drawing and shading techniques that allow artists to create a wide variety of landscape textures, from lush grasses to smooth stones. We will draw spring flowers such as: tulips, crocuses and daffodils. Flowers are a perennial favorite subject because of their exciting variety and complexity of color, texture and detail. Using basic colored pencil techniques, you will learn to capture the rich textures and distinct personalities of elegant tulips, graceful crocuses, cheery daffodils and other beautiful spring blooms.

C-AA 029 MYSTERY OF THE HOUSE CAT

Capturing the likeness of animals on paper is a rewarding challenge for any artist. Domesticated cats, our most familiar furry friends, bring forth a unique blend of trials for artists trying to replicate their features accurately. The incredible range of breeds, colors, sizes and shapes is further enhanced by the never-ending poses each can assume, from sitting and sleeping to working and fighting. Each cat is, at best, an individual, and bringing forth those special aspects of each animal's character will make any artist's drawings come to life. We will learn how to capture cat-portrait on paper, with easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, covering all aspects of drawing cats in colored pencil media. Paper will be provided.

You will learn how to break down the subtle shapes of different bird species into an assembly of easily rendered forms and explore five elements of shading for creating depth and realism. Still life has been a popular genre for hundreds of years, and artists wishing to explore it can find inspirational examples from the time of the Romans right up to the present day. These include murals from the Italian Renaissance, lavish early 17th century floral studies from The Netherlands, the exuberant work of the Impressionists, and the surprising shapes and dimensions introduced by the Cubists and Surrealists.

Come experience a non-chronological survey of music written for keyboard instruments. Film noir has been described as "...stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize moral ambiguity and sexual motivation." Each class will concentrate on one film; the likes of such Hollywood legends as Richard Widmark, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, Burt Lancaster and Glenn Ford will be seen in roles that occasionally blur the lines between heroes and villains and provide a terrific jolt in the process.
