C-O 008 GEOLOGY/MARINE ECOLOGY

The Olympic Peninsula has complex geologic underpinnings and is a fascinating place to experience nature in its myriad forms. You will explore the early formation of the peninsula and learn how modern geologic processes such as glaciations and erosion have shaped it. You will also join naturalist Coke Smith for a survey of the Olympic Peninsula's marine ecosystem. There will be three Saturday field trips; Salt Creek, Hurricane Ridge, Beach 4 and Ruby Beach. Students are responsible for their own transportation. Class meets in room #902 at the Port Angeles High School. Washington State clock hours offered.

C-O 010 RAILROADS

Learn the general historical background of the railroad in North America and then concentrate on the histories of the 30+ railroads that operated in Clallam County. The histories of the local railroads will be illustrated through maps and photographs and with hands-on artifacts. A short section will cover current-day rail travel in the US, UK, and Australia.
